Sun and Moon

I decided to go to the cemetary, where I could visit the graves of fallen heroes and brave hearts that fought in the past. The atmosphere was a little gloomy and dark, but it was nothing to impress me. I had seen much worse during my long existence.

As I passed the gates, I noticed a woman a little farther away. Maybe was she paying respects to the departed too?

I dug far enough into the ground so that other animals wouldn't disturb the small body that I was now laying to rest. The family of the cub that I was burying was next to me, their muzzles down as they watched what I did.

"He was unjustly hunted..."

Sighing, I continued to dig, though I was blind. The shovel in my hands rubbed my gloves awkwardly, and I continued to go despite the discomfort.

I noticed the wolves around her, as well as the shovel in her hands. She looked as if she had troubles to use it. What was she trying to do?

I crept closer and noticed the hole was made for a small body, apparently a cub. At her sight, I felt a little bad.

"Do you need help?", I asked.

As I heard the words, the shovel was down and my Katana was out. The wolves around me growled, formation moving around their cubs body.

"Who's there."

My lenses were tinted so that I could only see the outlines, but the voice that came to me was feminine.

I took a step back. It seemed I had startled her. Showing my hands in a sign of peace, I said:

"Sorry I startled you, that wasn't my intention. I only wish to offer you some help, for you seem a little dull with the shovel."

I was on my guards. With the wolves growling, nothing was saying that they wouldn't attack me. I was ready to defend myself, but I'd prefer not to have to.

"I'm having trouble because I can't see the ground. Gosh. Nyet."

At my command the wolves stopped, sitting calmly.

"If.. You truly wish to help, then please. Do."

I went to carefully grab the shovel on the ground and started to dig a proper hole for the departed cub.

"I know this is none of my business, but why do you wish to bury this little wolf?"

"He was hunted, and not used. For fun. Needless to say.. the young man who did the killing fed each of us."

I let her take that as she would.

"That's barbaric", I said.

I finished digging and looked at my work. Satisfied, I looked at her and said:

"I think you should have the honor of putting him in his last resting place."

"What is?.. And.. I thank you."

I gently picked him up, before wrapping him in my jacket.

"May you hunt in the after life, little one..."

At this, I gently laid him into the hole, before turning to the stranger.

I handed her the shovel and said:

"I think it would not be appropriate of me to fill it up. Since you seem to have an affinity with the wolves, I believe they would agree that you're better suited than I am to do this."

I smiled and tried to look as recomfortant as I could.

"Where is the dirt, then? I can't... see it."

I lifted my glasses to show her my whitened eyes.

I nodded as I saw her eyes.

"Ah, then let me help once more."

I took her hand as I gave her the shovel and positioned her to be able to take the dirt.

"There you go."

"Volk, assir."

As I dug, so did the wolves. Grunting through the blood that I could feel in my gloves, I finished the grave.

"And now... We sit vigil."

Quietly, I sat over the grave. Looking up at the woman, I could feel something from her.

"Your soul... It is... different. You have been through battles. Numerous in amount... But you seem.. Almost sad. Maybe alone? I know not. Tell me, what has damaged such a timeless being?"

I sighed and looked at the sky, then said:

"Indeed, I've participated in many battles, and I unfortunately lost many good people during them. I came here to pay them respects and honor their memories. While some lived, too many had to sacrifice themselves for the sake of future generations."

"Then continue."

I shook my head.

"Doing it too much would be disrespecting them, pitying them. I don't want to bring dishonor to their souls."

I sighed then looked at her.

"Speaking of timeless being, you must have been through a lot too, considering your own age."

"Ha... You know my age, then?"

I lifted an eyebrow gently, taking the Alpha female's head into my lap, stroking her gently.

"A mothers pain is hard to bear..."

I nodded and looked at the wolves.

"I can only imagine that. I have no children, but I know what it is to loose people close to you. I lost many precious friends in battles and their departure pained me a lot. I can only imagine what it is like to loose a child."

I then turned my attention back to the woman and said:

"No, I don't know your age, but I know you are not as young as you look like. You are much older."

Inclining my head toward the woman, I raised my other eyebrow.

"Ah. Wise eyes. No, I am not as young as I look. I'm by far older. Back when pictures were words, and monsters were truly feared. I have seen gods die, and kings rise. Kingdoms crumble, and peace crushed. But, your soul tells me you are older than time its self. Hm?"

I smiled.

"I was created before this Realm was even planned to be. I have witnessed the creation and ruination of many other Realms, as well as this one's birth. I saw civilisations rise and fall up to this last one. I fought in almost every battle that I deemed righteous, and survived to keep track of it. Some I won, some I lost. I have heard legends that people created about me, and very few remember what it was truly like back then."

Nodding my head, I put my forehead to the alphas.

"Fighting for survival is all I've ever done. I've been worshiped, sacrificed to, and killed for fun. I have recently gone against those ways.. but..."

Sighing, I looked up at the woman.

"I know what you are, by the by."

I chuckled at her last revelation.

"I would have been surprised if you didn't. Yet, Yet, you say that you know what I am, but do you know who I am?"

"Judging by your numerous battles, an angel of war. But no, your name escapes me."

Shaking my head, I motioned for the other wolves to flank the angel.

"Preferably, I'd like it if you'd sit. No, I'm sorry that I don't trust you quite yet.. Please make no rash decisions, as I would hate to lose my comrades. Please... if you would..... sit."

I looked at the wolves now surrounding me. I understood whashe must have been feeling. I too would probably have done the same thing if I were to meet myself like that.

Not wishing to cause a blood effusion, I sat and said:

"That is understandable. Very few meet those of my kind. Plus, as you mentionned yourself, I am the Herald of War. That makes it twice worth the suspicion. But fear not, I don't have any bad intentions at this moment, I promise."
